Expert: Javakhk problems should be treated cautiously

A program coordinator at Yerkir Union of NGOs for Repatriation and Settlement believes a clear concept should be developed to present the problems of Javakhk Armenians to Georgian authorities.

At news conference in Yerevan, Robert Tatoyan blamed the current inconsistent approach towards the problem for failure to achieve results.

Deputy director of Caucasus Institute, political analyst Sergey Minasyan, however, warned of possible repercussions drastic steps might have on Armenia-Georgia relations. “Javakhk Armenians’ issue must be addressed at the right moment,” the expert said, citing the issue of Georgia’s Armenian churches which would have been easier to resolve several years ago.
