St. Petersburg hosts CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council session

St. Petersburg, Russia, hosted a CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council session, with key decisions taken by CIS leaders and heads of government in September-October 2011 discussed.

The session reviewed the results of the observation by the organization’s representatives of the parliamentary election in Kazakhstan and the presidential election in Kyrgyzstan.

Participants of the seminar discussed ways to enhance the work of the elective bodies of the CIS member states and observation of elections and referendums.

Valentina Matviyenko, Russia’s Federation Council chairman, was elected as next head of CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council.

A seminar titled “International Observation: Equity, Professionalism, Non-Politicization” for international CIS observers and consultants will take place at the Tauride Palace on 10 November, BelTA reported.
