One of PKK leaders arrested in Turkey

One of the leaders of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) was arrested in Istanbul, CNN Turk reported.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said the name of the detainee, who possesses important information, is not made public for security reasons.

Listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and European Union, the PKK took up arms in 1984 to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. More than 40,000 people have been killed in clashes involving the PKK during the past over two decades.
