Earthquake hits Turkey’s Aegean provinces

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake hit the Aegean Sea on Monday, December 5.

The quake struck in the morning, with its epicenter in the Aegean, the Istanbul-based Kandilli seismological institute said.

According to Anatolia news agency, tremors were also felt in Turkey's provinces of Izmir and Aydin. There was no immediate report of casualties or damages.

A powerful quake shook eastern Turkey on October 23, killing more than 600 people. It was followed by a 5.6 magnitude tremor on November 12, when 40 people died in the same area.
