INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES TO CREATE VIRTUAL UNION OF NATIONS, STATED ROBERT KOCHARIAN IN GENEVA
"Armenia perceives information technologies as means for creating a virtual union of nations", - Armenia's President Robert Kocharian stated today addressing the World Summit on Information Society. Reminding that the first computer in Armenia was assembled in 1960, the President noted that information technologies took the leading direction in the economic development of the country, Mediamax agency informs. "Today the sphere of information technologies and software comprise 1,7% of Armenia's Gross Domestic Product, thanks to what Armenia is among the countries showing high rates of development in this field", - R. Kocharian said. The President noted that E-Caucasus Armenian initiatives entered the stage of realization with the assistance of the European partners. "Soviet way of thinking still exists in our region hindering the transition to the formula of an integrated society. Technologies can help in overcoming the old stereotypes and acquiring the standards of a rightful society", - R. Kocharian said.
