Matthew Bryza: military solution, status quo unacceptable in Karabakh issue

U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan believes both military solution to Karabakh conflict and status quo unacceptable.

"There is no military solution to this conflict, but at the same time the status quo is inadmissible. Both parties should spare no effort to reach a final agreement," Matthew Bryza told journalists in Astara, on the second day of his visit to Azerbaijan's southern districts.

"It is the responsibility of the presidents to take difficult decisions and bring the two communities together to agree on peace," he said.

Bryza was optimistic that the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents would be able to reach agreement in talks.

"I believe that the presidents of both countries can reach consensus on the basics of a framework agreement, because we can’t set aside the substantive issues,” APA quoted the envoy as saying.
