EU to increase involvement in Karabakh process in 2012

The European Union plans greater involvement in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement in 2012, the head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan said.

“The year 2011 was important in terms of EU engagement in the resolution of the conflict," Roland Kobia told journalists on Thursday, Dec 4.

"There have been a lot of direct and indirect calls for greater EU involvement in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict resolution," he said, stressing the EU commitment to supporting the peace process.

“This year, EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, appointed a new special representative, ambassador Philippe Lefort, who has a specific mandate to support the OSCE Minsk process in resolving the conflict,” Kobia noted.

"We are very committed to the settlement; I believe in 2012 we’ll see a stronger EU involvement in supporting the process of the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict," News.az quoted him as saying.
