ARMENIAN ORGANIZATIONS OF TWO GEORGIAN REGIONS WELCOME EDUARD SHEVARDNADZE RETIREMENT
The Council of Representatives of Armenian Non-Governmental Organizations of Samtskhe-Javakhetia and Kvemo-Kartli Georgian regions welcomes the retirement of Eduard Shevardnadze as the president, owing to which the danger of bloodshed was prevented in the country. As reported by "A-Info" agency, the Council yesterday made a statement calling Armenian population to preserve composure and be watchful on these days, which are so important to Georgia. The Council also expressed confidence that upon establishment of constitutional order and strengthening democratic values in the country there will appear an opportunity to find a solution to social-economic, cultural and political problems of the Armenian population of Samtskhe-Javakhetia and Kvemo-Kartli, as well as all peoples of Georgia. At that the Council of Armenian Organizations denied reports on exacerbation of the situation in Akhalkalaki Georgian city due to the alleged "beginning of the process of self-government of Javakhetia."
