NKR envoy: British photojournalist conveys strive of Artsakh people to live

The photos by Anastasia Taylor-Lind show the desire and steadfast efforts by the Nagorno Karabakh authorities to support new families despite scarce state resources, permanent representative of NKR in the United States said.

“Most importantly, the photostory conveys the desire and efforts of Karabakh people for improvement of life conditions,” Robert Avetisyan said.

Anastasia Taylor-Lind, London-based member of the VII photo agency, documented the “birth encouragement program” in Nagorno Karabakh in her “The National Womb” project. The goal of the program is to repopulate the country, where tens of thousands have been displaced.

When a couple marries in Nagorno Karabakh, the government gives them a cash reward of $780. More money comes their way after the birth of their first child - and their second, third and fourth. Families with six children under the age of 18 receive a house, says the article published by The New York Times last week.
