French Minister: Genocide bill fills gaps in France’s legal field

Adoption of the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial fills the gaps in the legal field of France, Ministry in Charge of Relations with the Parliament said.

Patrick Ollier noted that the issue of penalizing Genocide denial was debated in the past, too, adding that the current draft law is not aimed against anybody.

According to him, France should pass a law condemning genocide denial, a similar law regulating in many countries.

First Deputy Mayor of the City of Limoges, Monique Boulestin, in turn, noted that adoption of the bill harmonizes legal field of France. “Adoption of the bill will enable future generations to finally form a peaceful Europe, where people may revisit their past,” she said.
