French MP, former Foreign Minister Renaud Muselier voiced his position regarding the bill penalizing the Armenian Genocide denial.

“I agree with the opinion that adoption of the bill penalizing Armenian Genocide denial will help France fill the gaps in the country’s legal field,” Mr. Renaud Muselier said during the Dec 22 debate in the National Assembly.

He refused to comment on statements issued by the Turkish government, whilst noted that Turkey has no right to compromise France.

He further stressed the importance for Turkey to follow the suit of Germany, which committed Holocaust, and admit its past.

According to Mr. Muselier, by adopting the draft law, France calls for admitting the past and historical facts, as well as fostering establishment of dialogue between the nations.
