Expert: Yerevan mustn’t allow Ankara to use protocols for own gain

Armenia should immediately withdraw its signature from Armenian-Turkish protocols as Turkey will attempt to aim the document against Armenia’s national or state interests, political analyst, European Integration NGO said.

As Karen Bekaryan told a press conference, Armenia should clearly voice its position and state all those parties involved in Armenian-Turkish reconciliation that the current situation is inadmissible.

In this context, the expert noted that Yerevan must not allow Ankara to use protocols for own gain.

According to Mr. Bekaryan, mediators should start consultations on fixing specific event terms.

Armenian-Turkish normalization process started on RA President Serzh Sargsyan’s initiative in fall 2008. On October 10, 2009 Armenian and Turkish Foreign Ministers signed protocols expected to be ratified by parliaments of both states.

In August 2011, the protocols were removed from Turkish parliament’s agenda and were broughtt back in October.
