French Senate expected to debate Genocide bill Jan 23

The bill criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial is expected to be debated at French Senate on January 23. The inclusion of the bill on Senate agenda will be discussed at January 17 meeting of political leaders, Nouvelles d’Armenie reported.

On December 22, French National Assembly passed the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial. The draft law envisages a year in jail and a fine of 45,000 euros for those who publicly deny the Armenian Genocide in France. On December 7, the Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly has passed the bill introduced by MP Valerie Boyer (UMP).
