Armenia’s inflation rate close to that in EU states

4.7 % inflation rate was recorded in Armenia in December 2011 compared to the same period in 2010, including 5,8% for foodstuff , 4,3% for non-foods, and 2.9% for service sector.

As head of Price Statistics and International Comparisons Division of RA National Statistical Service Gurgen Martirosyan told a press conference, inflation average rate totaled 7,7% in 2011.

Comparing Armenia’s inflation index (2,1%) with that of CIS and EU countries based on outcomes of past 11 months, the expert noted the lowest and the highest inflation rates to have been recorded in Georgia (1,4%) and Belarus (204%) within CIS. Inflation indices in Kazakhstan and Russia were observed as follows - 7% and 5,6% respectively.

Dwelling on inflation rate in EU member states, Mr. Martirosyan cited 2,7% on average, Armenian index being closer to that of EU.
