Free Democrats urge shift to parliamentary government in Armenia

Free Democrats opposition party urges a struggle for a shift from presidential to parliamentary form of government in Armenia.

“Upon rising to power, leaders tend to show signs of authoritarianism in Armenia and other CIS states as well. Which is a reason some of them, specifically Georgia and Kirghizia initiated a transfer to a parliamentary form,” Free Democrats representative Alexander Arzumanyan told PanARMENIAN.Net.

Dwelling on the struggle between current and former presidents of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, Robert Kocharyan and Levon Ter-Petrossian, Arzumanyan noted, “Armenia must break free of this “vicious triangle” keeping it hostage.”

In conclusion, the oppositionist urged for adoption of a law, limiting the number of presidential terms to 2.
