Demand for electoral system shift pursues political goals - MP

Leader of the Christian-Democratic Union perceives Heritage and ARF Dashnaktsutyun opposition parties’ demand for a full shift to proportional electoral system as a wish to gain political dividends.

As Khosrov Harutyunyan told a press conference, the fact that the parties issued the statement only several months prior to the elections testifies to the aforesaid.

The MP further noted that electoral system shift will not safeguard 100% guarantees from election violations, the latter committed not only by candidates elected through majority system, but also other political forces.

Armenian National Assembly includes 131 parliamentarians, with 41 MPs elected through majority system; 90 MPs - through proportional system.

On December 27, Heritage and ARF Dashnaktsutyun opposition parties issued a joint statement urging for a full shift to proportional electoral system.
