Georgian town residents oppose mosque construction

The residents of the Georgian southwestern resort of Batumi protest construction of a mosque in the town.

“We are not against restoration of a mosque in Ajaria or in any other part of Georgia but we strongly oppose construction of a new one. We promise that should the mosque be built, we will raze it to the ground with bulldozers,” a public movement head Murmar Dumbadze said.

The decision to build a mosque in the Georgian resort was taken by the Georgian and Turkish government several days ago.
