The Japan Football Association is moving to hold a match in quake-hit Fukushima during this year's Under-20 Women's World Cup.
JFA vice president Kozo Tashima said the association has plans to stage the match in Fukushima if a local stadium can be upgraded to meet FIFA standards.
FIFA has been pressing Japan to organize events in areas struck by last March's earthquake and tsunami as a show of support for the victims.
The Under-20 Women's World Cup will be played in Japan from Aug. 19 to Sept. 8. It will be the first time Japan, winners of the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup, will host a FIFA women's world championship, The Associated Press reported.
