Ukrainian cheese imports banned in Russia

Russian consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor imposed on Wednesday, February 15 a ban on cheese supplies from three Ukrainian producers over their failure to meet Russian food standards, RIA Novosti reported.

"(The service) has suspended sale of nearly five tons of (Ukrainian) cheese and banned import of 128,500 tons of cheese to the Russian Federation following the results of checks," the service said in a statement.

The watchdog imposed the ban on products of Prometei, the Peryatinsky cheese-making plant and Gadyachsyr for violations of Russian milk and milk product standards. The Ukrainian producers said their products meet all necessary requirements.

Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Nikolai Prisyazhnyuk said that Rospotrebnadzor's experts would inspect the three Ukrainian cheese-making plants next week.
