Ambassador: Armenia, Iran have potential to boost cooperation

Iran can have a greater share in Armenia's foreign relations, the Armenian ambassador in Tehran has said.

According to IRNA, Grigor Arakelyan made the comments on the sidelines of a meeting in Tehran to review ways of upgrading trade relations between the two countries.

He said there was plenty of potential to expand trade relations, adding that Iran and Armenia enjoy common grounds for economic cooperation both countries are interested in.

Iran is Armenia's fourth trade partner and trade rose by 40% percent in 2011 to reach $320 million, compared with 2010, the ambassador said.

“If Iran joined the World Trade Organization, the two countries would cooperate in more fields of interest,” Arakelyan said.
