Union halts Frankfurt airport strike, seeks talks

A spokesman for the union representing ground workers at Frankfurt airport says it will halt its strike ahead of an expected resumption of negotiations, according to AP.

Matthias Maas of the GdF union said the strike will be suspended with the start of the night shift later Wednesday, February 22. He said negotiations could restart as soon as Thursday.

The union had planned to strike through Friday to press its demands for more pay from airport operator Fraport AG.

The strikes, which began last week, already have led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights and delays at the airport, Europe’s third busiest, which sees some 1,300 takeoffs and landings daily.
