Death toll in Baghdad blasts rises to 50

The death toll in a wave of bombings and other attacks across Iraq on Thursday, Feb 23, has risen to 50, police and hospital sources said, according to Reuters.

The early-morning attacks were conducted against mainly Shi'ite targets in Baghdad and several other towns and cities.

On Wednesday, police said gunmen with silenced pistols killed six policemen at a drive-by shooting at a security checkpoint in a Sunni area in northern Baghdad.
