Armenian scholar: science funding must make 1% of GDP

Armenian science has a number of problems to address, corresponding member of RA National Academy of Sciences said.

“Armenian scientists are “getting old”. 57 is their average age. If this goes on like this, we will lose all the positions we gained in the field. Along with the economic growth of Armenia, there is notable decline in funding of science, whereas it should make 1% of GDP” Artur Ishkhanyan said.

Dwelling on problems in the field of science, Mr. Ishkhanyan noted a number of oversights from legal perspective.

“We attach great importance to adoption of the law on scientific expertise which aims to fight corruption,” the scientist said, naming science workers’ low salaries as a serious problem.
