Book prices will shrink soon, official says

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan again referred to the issue of increased book prices at the government meeting on March 7.

Chairman of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) Artak Shaboyan, who was instructed at previous meeting to deal with the situation, presented the results of the market study.

The book price hike appeared to be caused by misinterpretation of taxation provisions by a number of economic entities. “The Ministry of Finance has already provided official explanations on the issue,” Shaboyan said.

SCPEC head added that following the official explanation, the economic entities will make respective amendments in their regulations, and prices which went high on some books, will be reduced within the coming days.

Shaboyan also urged the consumers to follow the price decrease; in case this does not happen, he advised addressing the SCPEC.
