WikiLeaks says bin Laden body taken to U.S.

WikiLeaks has revealed a series of emails that allege the body of Osama bin Laden was not buried at sea as initial U.S. reports had suggested. Instead they claim the former al-Qaeda leader’s body was flown to the United States by the CIA in secrecy, Australian Times reported.

A leaked email written by Fred Burton, vice president for intelligence at Stratfor, and sent to a colleague at 5.51 am the day Bin Laden was killed, suggests the body was intended for Bethesda, Maryland.

It reads, “Body bound for Dover, DE on CIA plane. Than [sic] onward to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Bethesda.”

Another email from Stratfor CEO, George Friedman said, “Reportedly, we took the body with us. Thank goodness.”

These are among aproximately five million emails that were apparently taken from the firm’s servers and fed to WikiLeaks by the Anonymous international hackers.

The U.S. announced its commandoes had killed Osama bin Laden on May 2 last year after they discovered and stormed his Pakistani home. American authorities soon after stated that his body had been buried at sea in accordance with Koranic law which details a body must be buried within 24 hours of death.

However, according to the leaked emails, the body was allegedly taken to the U.S. for further examination.
