UN chief to attend Arab League summit

Iraq's top diplomat says United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon will attend the annual Arab League summit that is scheduled later this month in Baghdad, AP reported.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari on Wednesday, March 7 said Ban accepted the invitation to attend "just a few days ago."

The three-day annual meeting of the league's 22 member nations is set to be held in Baghdad for the first time since 1990.

It originally was planned for the Iraqi capital last year but political unrest across the Mideast, combined with concerns about the country's security, shelved the meeting until this spring.

The U.N. could not immediately be reached for comment.
