Armenia has enough resources to oppose rivals, President says

Armenia will not relax its vigilance over Nagorno Karabakh peace process, Armenian President, leader of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Serzh Sargsyan said.

Speaking at the 13th RPA congress, Sargsyan said: “Artsakh belongs to Armenians. The Republic of Armenia has always provided and will continue to provide comprehensive support to Artsakh’s political and economic development.”

“International recognition of the right of Artsakh people to self-determination will serve as a basis for a peaceful resolution of Nagorno Karabakh issue. We will further work to involve the Nagorno Karabakh Republic as a full-fledged party in the negotiations. Efforts of Armenia, Artsakh and Diaspora will be aimed at adoption of decisions by international organizations that rule out military resolution of the conflict,” Armenian President stated.

Mere diplomatic efforts will not prevent the enemy from encroaching upon our country, Sargsyan said.

“We’ve strengthened our defense facilities, and we use both foreign and domestic armaments and military equipment. Today our country possesses enough power and resources to contain a potential adversary.”

Armenia will further work to bring its defense potential in compliance with modern standards of discipline, transparency and control.

“The army will become exemplary for our society as well. All current tendencies demonstrate that we will reach these standards shortly,” he concluded.
