CSTO head deems organization’s involvement in Iran issue unreasonable

All countries are interested in rapid and peaceful resolution of conflicts, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Nikolai Bordyuzha said.

He rendered CSTO’s involvement in the settlement of Iran’s nuclear problem unreasonable.

“UN institutions currently resort to active steps in Iran aimed at peaceful resolution of the problem. There is no need for CSTO intensifies engagement in the issue,” Mr. Bordyuzha said.

Discussion of a possible U.S. or Israeli strike on Iran recently flared tensions in relations with Islamic Republic.

Iran is already the subject of a wide range of international sanctions because the West, led by the United States, accuses Tehran of pursuing a secret nuclear weapons program. However, the Islamic Republic insists its nuclear power needs are for civilian purposes only.
