Rihanna music director to shoot “The Last Days of American Crime”

Commercials and video director Anthony Mandler is in talks to make his feature directing debut on The Last Days of American Crime, based on the graphic novel by Radical Publishing, Deadline reported.

Mandler, who has directed videos with the likes of Rihanna, Jay-Z and Eminem and commercials with David Beckham, has been courted by Hollywood for several jobs. He’s also attached to Vlad, a vampire saga written by Charlie Hunnam and produced by Plan B for Summit/Lionsgate.

The Last Days of American Crime, which has a script by Karl Gajdusek, takes place in the future, as America responds to a second major terrorism attack by developing technology that eliminates the impulse to commit crimes of any kind. The protagonist leads a heist team that plans to pull off a final job five days before the signal rubs out the criminal instinct.

Noomi Rapace had been attached, though it’s unclear if she remains so.

The story for the comic was written by Rick Remender, who wrote the first draft of the script, and illustrated by Greg Tocchini.
