David Avanesyan beats James Onyango

Armenian welterweight David Avanesyan (11-1, 5 KOs) scored an impressive stoppage of usually durable Kenyan fighter James Onyango (8-4-1, 8 KOs) in the third round and grabbed the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council welterweight title.

Avanesyan looked solid in the first and landed several heard right hands and added left hooks on occasion. His left hand became lethal in the second round, when he floored Onyango with a series of hard hooks to the liver. Onyango got up and was battered around the ring till the end of the stanza. In the third, the Russian welterweight titleholder moved in and landed once again another left hook to the body. Onyengo didn’t look hurt but chose to remain on the canvas thus signalizing a knockout loss at 0:40 of the third, hyefighters.com reported.
