Armenian NA speaker not to discuss Protocols until they are ratified by Turkey

Monday, February 22, Armenian Parliament postponed discussion of the Armenian-Turkish Protocols. The formal reason for postponement was the request of Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly Armen Rustamyan, who claimed the commission had not yet prepared a conclusion on the Protocols.

Armenian entry for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest was selected in a national final Sunday, February 14. The winner, Eva Rivas, was picked by a combined vote of the TV public (SMS voting) and an expert jury.

Presently Turkey is in no mood for Protocols

Thus, the Armenian-Turkish Protocols reached an impasse, or rather fell into the trap set by Azerbaijan and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Turkey. Detentions of senior military officials, who are accused of the coup attempt organized in 2003 may lead to two consequences: either there will really be a military coup, or the secular government will be finally replaced by an Islamic one. In either case the country will have to face instability and setback that will immediately reflect on ratification of the Protocols by the Turkish Parliament.

Armenia won bronze at 2010 Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup

Greco-Roman Wrestling: Armenia won bronze at World Greco-Roman Wrestling Cup 2010 held in Yerevan on February 13 and 14. In the seventh fight, Armenia’s Yuri Patrikeev (w/c 120 kg) beat Russia’s Alexander Yunoshkin. So, defeating Russians 4:3 in the team event, Armenian wrestlers came third, following Iran and Turkey. The tournament winners received money awards: $50 000, $30 000 and $20 000 respectively. Teams from Armenia, Russia, Iran, Hungary, Cuba, Turkey, Georgia and a team from Scandinavian countries were participating.

Armenian mobile services market edged closer to full saturation in 2009, with nearly every working adult in the country of 3.2 million people having one or more mobile phones, and the number of mobile subscribers passing the 2,5 million mark. While the mobile operators say that there is still a lot of room to grow and compete, the question is – how exactly that competition will take place, and will the customers and the telecom sector benefit from the fight for market or otherwise.

Issue on existence of Armenology chair in Freie Universitat Berlin still open

According to RA Ministry of Diaspora, there are 75 Armenology centers outside Armenia. However, not all of them are active due to lack of funds. The centers, which are mainly sponsored by Armenian funds and organizations, have appreciable achievements in Armenology development and national identity retention.
