Dr. Megerditch Tarakdjian, of Armenian descent, was born in Syria and has been living in Montreal since 1982. At a very young age he developed a passion for painting and went on to study at the Saryan Academy of Arts in Aleppo, Syria. However, his parents did not believe he could earn a living as an artist and persuaded him to instead pursue a career in science.
