French Minister confirms upcoming defense deal with Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu has revealed that Yerevan and Paris will sign an agreement on military supplies on Monday, October 23.

Confirming that he will meet with his Armenian counterpart Suren Papikyan in France, Lecornu told Le Parisien Sunday: “Tomorrow we will formalize Armenia’s acquisition of a certain number of weapons from French manufacturers, in particular, we will sign an agreement that will allow Armenia to ensure the protection of its skies.”

Asked whether Armenia can count on French support, the minister said: “It is very important to give Armenia the opportunity to protect its civilian population and ensure the protection of its borders.”

Earlier, the head of the French military department said that he does not believe that Paris will be able to protect the territorial integrity of Armenia through military intervention. At the same time, Lecornu said that France is studying the defense needs of Armenia.
