Watzke explains why Mkhitaryan can't return to Borussia Dortmund

Broussia Dortmund would need to be ‘imaginative’ in order to bring Henrikh Mkhitaryan home, according to the club’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, The Metro reports.

The Armenia international joined Manchester United the summer before last but has struggled to cement a place in Jose Mourinho‘s strongest XI.

Mkhitaryan was dropped from eight of the last nine Premier League matchday squads before he made a late substitute appearance in Saturday’s frustrating 2-2 draw with Leicester City.

Mkhitaryan has been linked with a return to his former club, while Inter are also said to be interested in taking him on loan.

"I know the economic details of his transfer to Man United like nobody else," Watzke told Bild am Sonntag.

"That’s why [his return] is only conceivable with a great deal of imagination."

Last week, the Independent claimed United were willing to sell Mkhitaryan back to the Bundesliga club in a bid to push through a move for their Germany international Julian Weigl
