Lavrov visits Armenian Genocide memorial in Yerevan![]() May 6, 2021 - 14:19 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited the Armenian Genocide memorial on Thursday, May 6, official representative of the Russian Foreign Minister Maria Zakharova said in a Facebook post. Lavrov laid a wreath at the memorial and flowers at the Eternal Flame to honor the memory of the 1.5 victims of the Genocide. Russia first recognized the Genocide in 1995. On April 24, 1915, a large group of Armenian intellectuals was rounded up and assassinated in Constantinople by the Ottoman government. On April 24, 2021, Armenians worldwide commemorated the 106th anniversary of the Genocide which continued until 1923. Some three dozen countries, hundreds of local government bodies and international organizations have so far recognized the killings of 1.5 million Armenians as Genocide.
