Armenians won 199 medals throughout 2021, says top official

PanARMENIAN.Net - Athletes representing Armenia won 199 medals throughout 2021, according to Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloyan.

Giloyan told reporters on Tuesday, December 21 that the athletes managed to win that many medals at the Olympic Games, the Junior, Youth, World and European Championships, despite an obviously difficult year for the country, Factor.am reports.

According to Giloyan, the government greatly increased benefits and salaries in the field, allocating AMD 652 million drams in 2021 against the AMD 157 million previously.

The Deputy Minister of Sport considers the holding of the European Boxing Championships in Yerevan a very serious achievement.

"The best part is that this is not going to be the only one. The Prime Minister has instructed that we can hold two top competitions every year in Armenia, and we are going to use that opportunity," Giloyan added.
