U.S. urges Baku, Yerevan to continue working towards peace treaty

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on Monday, November 28 met with U.S. State Department senior adviser on Caucasus Philip Reeker to discuss the process of normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.

The press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the two discussed the elements of a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan, the opening of communications in the region and the process of delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

Bayramov spoke about Baku's approach to the “reintegration of the Armenian population living in Karabakh” into Azerbaijani society.

Reeker, in turn, reiterated the readiness of the United States to contribute by all means to the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. He also stressed the importance of ongoing negotiations on the elements of a peace treaty.

"The parties also discussed various aspects of the bilateral agenda and other issues of mutual interest," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry emphasizes.

The latest round of fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan began in the wee hours of September 13, when the Azerbaijani military attacked Armenian posts and shelled Armenian settlements both on the border and deep behind the frontline. More than 200 people are dead or missing as a result, the Security Council of Armenia said several days after the attack.
