Top Armenian officials honor memory of Sumgait victims

PanARMENIAN.Net - On the 35th anniversary of the massacre of Armenians in Sumgait on 27-29 February 1988, top officials visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial to pay tribute to the victims of the crime, the press service of the Armenian National Assembly reports.

Led by the Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the delegation also included President of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan, President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan and members of the Security Council.

The officials laid a wreath and flowers to the cross stones (khachkars) perpetuating the memory of the Armenians who died in the massacres organized by the Azerbaijani government in the cities of Sumgait, Kirovabad (Gandzak) and Baku.

Thirty-fiveyears have passed since the slaughter in Sumgait and nothing has changed in the behavior of the Azerbaijani government. Pogroms, beatings and murder of Armenians in Sumgait, a town 30-minutes drive from Baku, took place in broad daylight.
