Opposition MP: Russia warning Armenia of consequences

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan believes that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has “indirectly made clear" to Yerevan that “lowering the bar of relations with Russia” will have consequences for Armenia.

Abrahamyan’s remarks came after Lavrov declared that Russia hopes to receive a response from Armenia regarding the fulfillment of obligations and participation in joint integration structures, including the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Before that, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with France 24 that Armenia has frozen its participation in the Russian-led bloc.

According to Abrahamyan, Lavrov’s statements could signal revisions of Russia’s policy towards Armenia from political, military cooperation to economic ties.

“Russia is trying to understand whether this is just blackmail or Armenia's new course towards the EU,” the MP said.
