ARMENIAN MFA THINKS CONSIDERATION OF VARIANT OF EXCHANGE OF MEGHRI CORRIDOR FOR LACHIN ONE IMPOSSIBLE

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian MFA has categorically leaves out the possibility of consideration of the variant of leaving the Meghri corridor to Azerbaijan in exchange for the Lachin one in the course of the negotiation process on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement. It should be noted, according to the statement of Azeri president Heydar Aliyev, at the meeting with French co-chair of the OSCE Minsk group Hugh Perner, one of the aspects of «the Paris principles» agreed on between the heads of Armenia and Azerbaijan at the assistance of Jacques Chirac was allegedly an agreement on the transfer of the Meghri region to Azeri sovereignty and accordingly the Lachin corridor to the Armenian sovereignty. Armenian MFA Press secretary Dzyunik Agajian commenting this statement for «Arminfo» agency has stated such information does not correspond to the reality: the Armenian party has never had discussions on this issue, and, what is more, has never agreed on transfer of any region of Armenia to Azerbaijan. She reminded that Armenian president Robert Kocharian and foreign minister Vardan Oskanian have stated for many times that «the Armenian territory is not a bargain item». According to her, such statements are the next attempt of the official Baku to distort the situation and to threaten the future of the negotiation process on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement.
