Armenia won't change Constitution on another country’s demand - MP

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia will not change its Constitution based on any other country’s demand, Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan told reporters Thursday, August 8, Armenpress reports.

Papoyan's comments come amid continuous demands from Azerbaijan to change the Constitution of Armenia as a precondition to sign a peace deal.

The Minister said negotiations continue, with Armenia pushing its agenda.

“We have our agenda, and the negotiations continue. I read the latest statement by the Foreign Ministry, which said that one of the important points of our agenda has been mutually accepted. I think this is a highly important point for the continuity of the negotiations,” he said.

Asked about the Azerbaijani demand on changing the Armenian Constitution, the minister said that Armenia can change its Constitution when the people will make such a decision.

“Armenia will not change its Constitution on any country’s demand. Whether or not Armenia will change its Constitution is the domestic affair of the Republic of Armenia, and it is up to the citizens, the people…,” he added.
