Noubar Afeyan urges justice for Ruben Vardanyan

Prominent Armenian-American entrepreneur and philanthropist Noubar Afeyan has called for vigilance against unjust decisions as the trial of former Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan begins in Baku.

Writing on X, Afeyan emphasized the need to prevent grotesque injustices and ensure a fair trial.

"Please read these compelling facts. We must all remain vigilant and do everything possible to ensure a fair trial and prevent grotesque injustice," he said.

Afeyan also shared Vardanyan's statement, in which the imprisoned leader asserted his innocence, refused to provide testimony, and denounced fabricated documents attributed to him.

The trial, scheduled for January 17 at 3:00 PM in Baku, accuses Vardanyan under 42 charges, some carrying life sentences.

Currently, 23 Armenians remain detained in Azerbaijani prisons, including 16 captured during the September 2023 military attack. Among them are eight high-ranking officials from Artsakh, including former Presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, and Arayik Harutyunyan, as well as National Assembly Speaker Davit Ishkhanyan and other prominent figures. Charges include terrorism and organizing illegal armed groups.
