EU Parliament member hails Armenia's peace agenda

PanARMENIAN.Net - European Parliament member and co-chair of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee, Nils Ušakovs, highlighted that Armenia has adopted a path of peace, while Azerbaijan's position remains hard to understand or interpret. He discussed this in Armenia's National Assembly during the fourth session of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee, as reported by Armenpress.

Ušakovs emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation with Armenia in the security sector.

"The European Union's civilian mission has helped stabilize the situation on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. Of course, Baku and Moscow target this mission and present accusations. But the question arises: what threat can an unarmed civilian mission pose to them? They try to view this as an obstacle to the peace agreement," he stated.

He also noted that Baku refuses to cooperate and seeks to terminate the EU mission's presence. Nevertheless, Armenia has proposed the establishment of mutual arms control mechanisms.

"And this is an example that Armenia itself has undertaken the peace agenda. And we support it. But Azerbaijan's response to all this is very difficult to understand and interpret," Ušakovs emphasized.

National Assembly President Alen Simonyan thanked those European Parliament members who, in their reports and speeches, have strongly condemned the war unleashed by Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh, the presence of captives in Azerbaijani territory, and other important issues. He also stated that international humanitarian law was defeated in Nagorno-Karabakh.
