Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, speaking at a parliamentary commission meeting, emphasized that opening borders and reviving infrastructure are among the key issues in talks with Turkey.
"Border opening and infrastructure restoration, including the Gyumri-Kars railway, are crucial issues," Mirzoyan stated, as reported by Aravot.
The minister confirmed that the two sides agreed to restore the historic Ani bridge, though several commitments have yet to be fulfilled.
"We have agreements that have not yet been implemented, such as free movement for third-country nationals and border openings for them, as well as for Armenian and Turkish citizens holding diplomatic passports," he added.
Mirzoyan also addressed recent changes at the Armenia-Turkey border, noting that as of February 28, 2025, Armenian border guards have fully taken over operations at the Margara checkpoint.
"This means that, as of March 1, Armenian border service is responsible for all border checkpoints, whether operational or not, including Margara. This is, to say the least, a significant development," the minister stated.
He also expressed gratitude to Russian partners for their service at the border thus far.
Turkish journalists recently visited Armenia and interviewed Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. They also inspected the Margara checkpoint, which is fully prepared for operation on the Armenian side.
