Russia-Armenia-Azerbaijan trilateral commission remains active

PanARMENIAN.Net - The trilateral commission formed by Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan at the deputy prime ministerial level has not been officially disbanded, though it remains in a "dormant" state at this stage. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk stated this to journalists when asked whether the group might be dissolved given the direct communication between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"First of all, it is very good that direct communication is taking place; this is very important. As for the trilateral working group of deputy prime ministers, it was established by a joint statement of the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan... At this point, it is in a dormant state, that is a fact, but we know that contacts between the partners continue on this matter," Overchuk said.

He emphasized that the commission has not been officially shut down, and if the involved parties express interest, Russia is ready to resume its work. "If our partners reach out to us, and we can be of any help—and we certainly can—then, of course, we will gladly continue this work," he added.

At the same time, he pointed out that the future of the commission depends on the interest of its partners.

The trilateral working group was established in January 2021 following an agreement between Russian President Vladimir Putin, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Its primary goal was to restore transport and economic connections in the region. Alexey Overchuk represents Russia in the group.
