Beglaryan: authorities might launch new campaign against Artsakh Armenians

PanARMENIAN.Net - Former Artsakh Human Rights Defender Artak Beglaryan has stated in a Facebook post that instead of launching a proper investigation into the alleged torture of Artsakh youth Tigran Ulubabyan, Armenian law enforcement bodies have been pressuring his lawyer, Roman Yeritsyan.

Beglaryan expressed concern that the authorities might be initiating a new wave of repressions against Artsakh Armenians.

“Instead of conducting a serious investigation into the disturbing and credible reports of Tigran Ulubabyan’s torture, Armenian law enforcement bodies have clearly begun persecuting his lawyer, well-known Artsakh human rights advocate Roman Yeritsyan,” Beglaryan wrote.

“I have serious concerns that the authorities are launching a new wave of pressure against Artsakh Armenians, especially considering our growing unity and the upcoming just protests,” he added.

Beglaryan called on citizens to join the protest rally, adding that he would have participated himself had he been in Armenia.

At the invitation of Bishop Hovakim Manukyan, head of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of the United Kingdom and Ireland, Beglaryan held a series of advocacy meetings in London with political and religious leaders as well as members of the Armenian community. He also delivered a speech in the Danish Parliament.
