Zeynalyan: EU accession bid receives unequivocal support

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian National Assembly has adopted in the second reading and in full the bill titled "On Initiating the Process of the Republic of Armenia's Accession to the European Union."

During the discussions, Artak Zeynalyan, the authorized representative of the initiating group, emphasized that the bill has received clear and unequivocal political support from several European capitals and relevant institutions. He noted that in recent months, officials and parliaments from various European capitals and institutions have sent unambiguous signals supporting Armenia's initiation of the EU accession process, with political support evident in both bilateral meetings and various international platforms.

Zeynalyan also recalled a statement from the fourth meeting of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee, which welcomed the National Assembly's adoption of the bill and invited the Armenian government and EU institutions to discuss a realistic work plan to achieve this strategic goal in full compliance with Article 49 of the EU Treaty and the Copenhagen criteria.

The revised wording of the bill states: "The Republic of Armenia, aiming to develop democratic institutions, enhance societal well-being, strengthen the country's security, resilience, and the rule of law, declares the initiation of the process of the Republic of Armenia's accession to the European Union." The ruling "Civil Contract" faction participated in the voting, securing 64 votes in favor. The "I Have Honor" faction opposed the initiative.
