Mirzoyan discusses peace hopes amid U.S. talks

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, during an official visit to Brazil, gave an interview to the “Correio Braziliense” daily, in which he addressed relations with the United States.

When asked about expectations from cooperation with the new administration led by Donald Trump and how it could contribute to the peace process, the minister responded that Armenia is advancing its cooperation with the new U.S. leadership.

“A few months ago, we signed a very important document with the United States—the Strategic Partnership Charter. It elevates our relationship with the U.S. We are moving forward in cooperation with the new American administration. We have already held several meetings and exchanges with our American counterparts.

We see a strong interest in ensuring peace in the South Caucasus. President Trump and his team have spoken about peace across the world. Since we are deeply committed to peace, this is inspiring. We are in communication with the U.S. administration to understand what can be done to establish lasting peace in the South Caucasus,” Mirzoyan stated.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed strategic partnership and regional developments during a phone conversation.

During their call, the parties addressed several issues related to the Armenia-U.S. strategic partnership and regional agenda, according to the Prime Minister’s Office. Pashinyan briefed Rubio on the negotiation process that has led to the agreement on the draft treaty “On the establishment of peace and interstate relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
