Former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan took part in a commemorative event on March 28 dedicated to the 75th birthday of Ashot Navasardyan, marked by the opening of Navasardyan’s house-museum.

“Ashot Navasardyan, by risking his well-being and health, ultimately achieved his goal—we established the Third Republic. But sadly, how could he have known that thirty years later Armenia would have leaders who see Artsakh as a burden, who consider Shushi an unfortunate and dull town, and who would even question the Genocide,” Sargsyan told reporters, according to Aysor.am .

He highly praised Ashot Navasardyan’s role in shaping Armenian statehood.

Ashot Navasardyan was the founding chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia. In 1990, he was elected to the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR and later to the National Assembly in 1995. From 1990 to 1995, he served on the committees for the establishment of independent statehood, national policy, and constitutional matters. Between 1995 and 1997, he was Deputy Chair of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defense, National Security, and Internal Affairs. He passed away in 1997 at the age of 47.
