German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, currently on a regional visit, has shared updates from his trip to Armenia on his Instagram story, including photos and descriptions of his activities.
According to Auroranews.am , one of the images posted by the German president features the flag of Artsakh. In the accompanying caption, Steinmeier noted: “The conflict concerns the Nagorno-Karabakh region. According to international law, the region belongs to Azerbaijan, but a majority of Armenians have lived there. Over the past decades, armed conflicts have occurred repeatedly.”
He also remarked that this is his first visit to both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“Among the key topics scheduled for discussion is the principal mission of ensuring long-term stability and peace in the South Caucasus, and strengthening relations with both countries through cooperation in the fields of economy, science, and culture,” he stated.
During his official visit to Yerevan, President Steinmeier also acknowledged Armenia’s recent constructive steps toward peace with Azerbaijan, saying no obstacles remain for signing the agreed peace agreement.
